Innikloof

Wagtail tucked in under the trees at Innikloof

Innikloof is a little gem just outside Hankey in the Gamtoos Valley. We have ridden past the turnoff a number of times, but never investigated it. Earlier in the year we went to Tolbos restaurant in Patensie and on the way back we went to take a look. We immediately decided to book and a few weeks later we were there. Prince Albert

Dutch Reformed Church

Prince Albert is a little jewel in the Great Karoo. It’s such a joy to come across a dorp that hasn’t been trashed and this is one of them. Although it’s become quite trendy, it’s still has a lovely laid back feel. The difference is that you can enjoy wonderful restaurants, art galleries and a stunning museum, without the pretensions of similar ‘in’ dorps.

Dexter Cattle in Addo National Park – update

In Dec 22 I mentioned a story I had been told of a herd of Dexter cattle that had been found in the Addo National Park (see HERE for the original post). Well, today I got a confirmation from a good friend who is a tour guide. Malcolm contacted a friend who was a ranger in Addo at the time and he sent the following image and audio clip about the cattle.

Isn’t this an amazing story? Imagine these few cattle being able to survive for 26 years undetected in Addo. Even more incredible is that they were able to breed and sustain the herd in that time. Shows how ferocious they must have been to protect their calves from the lions and hyenas!

Just goes to show – there’s always something interesting to be learned wherever one is. Thanks again to Nico Smit for sharing the story originally and Malcolm Bean for the follow up.

Nov 2023 A further update

Ebb and Flow – Garden Route National Park

This trip we planned to meet Peter and Cheryl at Ebb and Flow in the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park.

This national park is made up of the the old Tsitsikamma national park, the Wilderness  national park and extensive areas of the Knysna forests. It’s an area well worth exploring and there’s an abundance of things to do. Continue reading “Ebb and Flow – Garden Route National Park”

Keurbooms River, Plettenberg Bay

This trip we went to the Forever resort on the Keurbooms river, just outside Plettenberg Bay. I had driven in to look around many years previously and have always wanted to stay there, so it seemed a good time to fulfill that dream. Plett is approx 250km from Port Elizabeth (P.E.), so it was an easy drive. We arrived at about 11.00am and after booking in drove into the campsite.
