Dexter Cattle in Addo National Park – update

In Dec 22 I mentioned a story I had been told of a herd of Dexter cattle that had been found in the Addo National Park (see HERE for the original post). Well, today I got a confirmation from a good friend who is a tour guide. Malcolm contacted a friend who was a ranger in Addo at the time and he sent the following image and audio clip about the cattle.

Isn’t this an amazing story? Imagine these few cattle being able to survive for 26 years undetected in Addo. Even more incredible is that they were able to breed and sustain the herd in that time. Shows how ferocious they must have been to protect their calves from the lions and hyenas!

Just goes to show – there’s always something interesting to be learned wherever one is. Thanks again to Nico Smit for sharing the story originally and Malcolm Bean for the follow up.
